A common cause of cardiogenic shock occurs when a blocked coronary artery (myocardial infarction or MI) causes the heart to fail. Cardiogenic shock from MI has a death rate of about 50%. This is why the DanGer-Shock trial had to be done in Denmark, a place where doctors are perhaps a little less sure of themselves. It did not.
